Newcastle upon Tyne cityscape with Tyne bridge

Storrar Marine is now named Marine Chandlery, following its acquisition by superyacht company, West Nautical, based in the north east of England.

Storrar Marine went into liquidation and was put on the market in early 2024.

West Nautical, founded in 2004, is a full-service superyacht company with head offices in Newcastle upon Tyne as well as international offices in more than five locations.

The new Marine Chandlery will be based at the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate and aspires to be the ‘leading service provider in both inboard and outboard boats along with trailer servicing, continuing to uphold the fantastic reputation set by Storrar Marine under the previous ownership’.

Marine Chandlery will offer an in-person service plus enhanced digital accessibility, catering to boat owners across the region and further afield.

The team has ambitions to streamline and modernise services to ensure the company continues to meet and exceed expectations of boat owners across the region as well as revitalising the local maritime community.

The business will host its grand reopening on the weekend of 8 and 9 June, with opening weekend deals and discounts.

The history of Storrar Marine

The business was started in 1973 by Rob Storrar as a sail loft in North Shields. In 1985, the business moved to the coast road which is when the offering expanded to include chandlery.

Storrar moved to a larger location on the coast road in 1995 and in 2010, it launched marinechandlery.com to reach more customers.

The business went into liquidation and was put on the sales market in early 2024.
