The CA has announced the launch of its new dedicated Motorboat Section, set to make its official debut on Monday 16 September, at the Southampton International Boat Show.

The new Motorboat Section will bring together motorboaters from all backgrounds, regardless of location or the type of motorboating. Whether members are cruising locally or exploring new waters, the Motorboat Section will offer a vibrant platform to share information, updates and resources tailored specifically to motorboating.

While the CA has always supported both sail and motor cruisers, the creation of a dedicated Motorboat Section enables them to better serve their expanding community of motorboaters. They also recognise that some sailors transition to motorboating, and the CA is committed to supporting this shift with enhanced services and specialised resources.

“The CA Is thrilled with how enthusiastically our motorboating members and others beyond the CA have engaged with this initiative,” said Derek Lumb, President of the Cruising Association. “Our new Motorboat Section will remain true to the principles of sharing knowledge that has guided the CA for over a century but now, for the first time, is specifically aimed at those who cruise in motorboats.”

In true CA fashion, this new Section will provide motorboaters with all the usual membership benefits and the CA’s renowned wealth of specialist knowledge. In addition, members will have access to a host of new opportunities and support, including cruising in company, Zoom talks, and active online forums.

The CA’s cruising in company events will give motorboat members the experience of longer passages, such as crossing the Channel or cruising to the Netherlands, whilst enjoying the safety and camaraderie of completing the passage with experienced skippers. Boats will be organised by cruising speed for a comfortable journey, with all logistics, including berthing and entry requirements, handled by the CA’s organisers. These events are perfect for both seasoned and new motorboaters looking to connect, learn from each other and explore new waters.

Additionally, the Motorboat Section has lined up an engaging series of Zoom talks over the autumn and winter months. Topics will range from stabilisers, breakdown prevention and boating in later years. Other talks will explore cruising the Frisian Islands, handling heavy weather and transitioning from sail to motorboating.

The CA’s online forums will also serve as a valuable resource, where members can share insights and experiences, seek advice and connect in a supportive environment.
