Aspen catamaran on water with stunning backdrop of mountains and trees

Yanmar Marine International has formed a strategic partnership with Aspen Power Catamarans. This will see Yanmar’s engine fitted on board Aspen’s C100 models.

The companies plan to combine their expertise to introduce ‘a new era of power catamarans’, which integrate Yanmar’s diesel engine technology with Aspen’s Power Proa hull design. Between them they’re hoping to ensure optimal cruising and fuel efficiency, while setting new standards in the industry. Yanmar’s engines were previously selected to be installed on Oyster Yachts.

“In selecting Yanmar over other brands, we considered several factors,” says Larry Graf, Aspen’s founder and chief engineer (the company was founded in 2008). “Yanmar’s reputation for reliability, expansive service network, and innovative technology, as well as the smooth, clean operation of the engine, coupled with easy cold starts, are key factors that align perfectly with Aspen’s commitment to quality and long-term customer satisfaction.

“I’ve been building catamarans for the last 30 plus years, and I have never had a product that has run this eco-friendly, it’s twice the efficiency of a trawler at double the speed,” continues Graf. He’s looking at a 32 per cent increase in efficiency based on adding the Yanmar 4LV250 engine to Aspen’s C100, now achieving 4.1mpg at 18mph.

Kevin Carlan, president Yanmar Marine International Americas, says the partnership represents a ‘fusion of expertise and innovation’.

This partnership comes after Yanmar launched its Yanmar E-Key system, earlier this year. That’s described to wirelessly unlock of the Yanmar VC20 Vessel Control system.
