The Royal Lymington Yacht Club will be hosting its annual Open Day and ‘Crew Match’ on 26 March to introduce the fun of sailing and boating to as many people in the community as possible.

The Open Day will take place from 10am to 4pm at the RLymYC clubhouse in Bath Road, Lymington, with the Crew Match Morning taking place from 10am to 12noon in the bar.

Everyone is welcome and no prior boating experience is required to join the RLymYC and take part in the huge number of activities on offer. Representatives from many areas of the club will be on hand during the Open Day to show visitors around and a selection of members’ boats will be available to view.

Whether your passion is powerboats, motor cruisers, yachts, dinghies or paddle boards you will find a warm welcome, excellent facilities, first class training, expert waterside services and a thriving social programme for all ages both afloat and ashore at RLymYC!

‘Crew Match’, not quite the nautical equivalent of speed dating, is a relaxed and informal event with ample time for people to match their sailing experience, level of knowledge and racing ambition with club members looking for crew. Complete beginners are welcome, as well as more experienced crew.

RLymYC commodore, Phil Lawrence, said: “Anyone interested in boating is encouraged to come along to our Open Day and Crew Match Morning. You do not have to be a member of a sailing club, just keen to participate in our sport. Crew Match introduces the inexperienced but keen sailor to the right team. Many skippers are happy to train those with no sailing experience but genuine enthusiasm. I am delighted to say that we have had a successful ‘match score’ over the years with many still competing in our Spring Series and Thursday Night Racing.

We will also be showcasing other aspects of life at the Royal Lymington, both on and off the water, so to find out more about the club please come along.”

Being part of a crew requires no financial outlay apart from some waterproof kit. On the water competition is always taken seriously but the camaraderie and prize giving back in the bar afterwards is an equally important part of events.

Potential crew may register on the RLymYC crew register at: http://rlymyc.org.uk/CrewMatch

The RLymYC Sunday Spring Series and Thursday Night Racing Series are extremely popular with up to 100 boats out each week during the summer. It includes boats of all sizes and crews of all levels of skill, competing against each other.

The club also offers plenty of weekend sailing and power boating, dinghy sailing, RYA training and junior coaching, racing and adventures, as well as many other events for newcomers to enjoy. The club’s junior and youth sailors are out in all weathers having fun. On the water activities are known to enhance self-confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Come along to learn or improve your sailing and motor boating skills. This year RLymYC is celebrating its Centenary and there has never been a better time to join them out on the water!
