Garmin launches LiveScope XR sonar

Garmin has launched its LiveScope XR sonar, which the marine electronics manufacturer claims is a revolutionary live-scanning sonar with the longest range on the market.

The LiveScope XR sonar delivers real-time images of fish and structures, displaying views around the boat in up to 500ft of freshwater and up to 350ft in saltwater. Now optimised for deeper water, LiveScope XR is ideal for coastal and open-water fishing, says the company.

According to Garmin, LiveScope XR delivers over 200 per cent more range than the leading competitor system

LiveScope XR offers anglers three unique vantage points — forward, down or perspective — to fit an owner’s fishing techniques and preferences. The new ‘compress range’ and ‘target expansion’ features, enable users to see higher resolution images at both short and long-range.

“You’ve never seen real-time images of fish and structure at distances and depths like this,” says Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “LiveScope XR offers significant range performance without sacrificing image clarity and resolution. Having set the standard for live-scanning sonar, we’re thrilled to continue to bring this game-changing technology to deeper waters so even more anglers can experience the LiveScope difference.”

The LiveScope XR System includes a compact GLS 10 black box with a LiveScope XR LVS62 transducer, along with a trolling motor barrel and shaft mounting kit, perspective mount bracket and a plug-and-play Garmin marine network connector for easy installation and integration with a compatible chartplotter. With a free software update, the LVS62 transducer (sold separately) can be added to an existing LiveScope System black box for customers who want to upgrade.

Both the LiveScope XR System and the LiveScope XR LVS62 are available now. The LiveScope XR is compatible with a wide range of Garmin GPSMAP and ECHOMAP chartplotters and combo units.

In April, Garmin reported its first-quarter 2022 earnings with a record consolidated revenue of US$1.17 billion, a nine per cent increase over the prior year quarter, with three segments – including marine – posting double-digit growth.
