Galley manufacturer GN Espace has added a new series of electric induction cookers, plus built-in ovens, to its Explorer range of compact cookers.

The cookers are aimed at the motorboat, catamaran and riverboat market.

The company says the cookers and ovens are energy efficient, reliable and robust. It also believes that electric cooking is the future for boating as moving away from traditional gas provides a safer, fume-free and moisture-free environment. This latest addition adds to the wide range of cookers the company already makes for different fuels.

The ovens heat to 180C in as little as eight minutes and, says GN Espace, the cookers consume 25-30 per cent lower electricity consumption than similar domestic appliances, optimising battery usage.

The Explorer collection is available in two sizes. There’s a compact 500mm wide version, plus a 450mm wide version for even smaller spaces. The Explorer 500 features a 3-zone induction hob with 30 litre oven and grill, while the Explorer 450 cooker has two cooking zones on the hob and a 23 litre oven. The built-in ovens have the same features as their cooker counterparts. Both have easy-to-use rotary controls which are so simple to operate and easy to grip with wet hands.

In February this year, the company introduced the Levante Built-in. That was billed as ideal for yacht and motorboat owners wanting to upgrade their LPG oven or microwave to a full electric oven. It’s only 45cm wide and is fast heating. Despite only using 1250W it reaches 200C in eight minutes. And, in 2021 GN Espace debuted the Gastronorm sink combo, which it said ‘set the style standard’. It’s a large and small sink bowl system which aims for maximum functionality in the tight confines of a typical galley.

The company also recently rebranded the Levante and OceanChef models into the Offshore range of seafaring cookers. The Offshore range is distinctive from the company’s two other new electric ranges, the Gourmet and Explorer models, that are better suited to motorboat, river boat and ‘flat sailing’ vessels. All three of the new ranges feature exclusively electric cookers.
